On behalf of the Western Classified Advertising Association I am proud to introduce the 2009 Conference Program – “Survivor Classified”.

Unlike many other industry organizations who have chosen to cancel their conferences this year, the Board of Directors of WCAA knows these difficult times have given our industry the opportunity to recreate and retool each of our local organizations. A task this enormous will take the best leaders – free thinkers who are well trained and well informed. Attendees of this year’s WCAA conference will come back to their newspapers as examples of those great leaders!

We are not your grandmother’s WCAA! Over the last five years our organization has grown from a regional group of traditional newspaper classified executives to a National group of newspaper professionals with a vested interest in providing information to our local communities. In most instances, that information is centered on the vertical categories of automotive, recruitment, real estate and merchandise. But as the methods of distributing the information have moved into the digital age, so has our organization. We are proud that over the past few years we have been able to seamlessly incorporate valuable sessions for both print and online executives.

This year’s attendees will walk away from the conference with revenue producing ideas that can be implemented in any size market. They will hear success stories from newspapers just like yours and they will have the training and tools to recreate those successes at your paper. Managers will be exposed to the latest innovations in technology – and will hear how other papers are turning the technology into revenue. And attendees will participate in workshops – with groups suggesting solutions to real world challenges identified by their peers.

The current economic conditions will abate. Despite the beliefs of many, we know that local newspapers will still be viable and alive. The real question is how your organization will interact with your customers in the new economy. Will your paper be ready for the boom with highly trained, well informed leaders? Will you have kept up with the technology changes in the industry? Will you have the programs and products necessary for your advertisers to reach the audiences of the future? You can answer yes to all these questions – just sign up today to join us in Las Vegas, September 13-16, 2009.

To make it even easier conference fees have been reduced this year. Now, the $375 registration fee includes membership dues (for your entire newspaper), all breakfast, lunch and evening events. And additional attendees from the same paper pay just $300!

There’s no conference where you’ll get this much value at this great price this year!

We look forward to seeing you all in September.

Rebecca Bradner
